The Cumulative Burden of Exposures to Chemical and Non-chemical Stressors in LMICs Through the Lens of MCH
Satellite ID: SA22
Satellite Organizer: University of Pittsburgh, School of Public Health
Date: March 7th, 2024
Time: 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Room: Santa Anita
In many LMICs, pregnant women and their children are especially vulnerable to adverse health outcomes associated with exposures to Pb, Hg, and As contaminating the food chains. Adverse birth outcomes and impacts on neurodevelopment are of specific concern. Compounding these exposures is the impact of non-chemical stressors, including stress and depression, on MCH. A transdisciplinary team of environmental health scientists from Suriname, Peru, and the US will present findings from two NIH-funded environmental epidemiologic cohort studies. In addition to the research findings, we will also share lessons learned in developing a long-term research and research training infrastructure through a sustained LMIC-US partnership.
